Italy August Inflation Rises to 3.3 Percent
Italy's annual inflation rate rose to 3.3 percent in August, driven primarily by a sharp increase in energy costs.
Italy's annual inflation rate accelerated to 3.3 percent in August 2026, increasing from 2.9 percent in July. According to preliminary data released by Istat, the rise was primarily driven by energy costs, with regulated energy products climbing 18.8 percent and non-regulated products increasing 16.9 percent year-over-year.
Goods inflation rose to 4.1 percent, though price pressures in the services sector moderated, with overall services inflation declining to 2.4 percent. The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices rose by 3.2 percent, a figure that fell short of the expected 3.4 percent.
Analysts suggest these figures may discourage the European Central Bank from further monetary tightening. However, fluctuating oil prices and geopolitical developments between the United States and Iran remain key variables that could influence future inflation trends.
