Iran Expels Two French Diplomats Over Alleged Illegal Activities
Iran expelled two French diplomats from Tehran after accusing them of violating international law and conducting secret meetings to build influence within the country.
The Government of Iran expelled two French diplomats from the French Embassy in Tehran on Tuesday, declaring them persona non grata and banning them from the country. The Iranian Foreign Ministry accused the diplomats of engaging in illegal activities and conduct that violate the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
This expulsion follows an August 15 announcement by Iran's Intelligence Ministry, which stated the diplomats were detained during a secret meeting as part of a national security investigation. Iranian authorities claim that seized documents reveal a broad plan to build influence within Iran, with some materials allegedly bearing the signature of a former French ambassador to Tehran.
Iranian officials further asserted that the French government failed to take measures to prevent the recurrence of such actions.
