Geely Auto to Enter Canadian Market in 2027

Geely Auto will launch in Canada in 2027 as the first Chinese mass-market electric vehicle brand to enter North America.

Geely Auto announced plans to enter the Canadian market in 2027, becoming the first Chinese mass-market electric vehicle brand to establish a presence in North America. The company has already formed a Canadian team and is currently recruiting dealers and establishing service infrastructure.

This expansion is enabled by a January agreement between the governments of Canada and China. The deal created a quota of 49,000 Chinese-built EVs per year at a 6.1% duty, a sharp decrease from the previous 100% surtax. Other Chinese automakers, including BYD and Chery Automobile, are also preparing for entry into the Canadian market.

The move follows a shift in Geely's business performance. While domestic sales in China dropped 23% during the first nine months of 2026, overseas shipments rose 169%. In contrast to the Canadian opening, U.S. restrictions on connected-vehicle technology continue to block Chinese-built cars from the American market.
