Engling and Bayh Make Final Appeals in Indiana Election
Republican Max Engling and Democrat Beau Bayh campaigned for the Indiana Secretary of State office ahead of the November 3 election.
Republican candidate Max Engling and Democrat Beau Bayh made their final appeals to voters on November 2, the day before the Indiana secretary of state election. Engling campaigned at a Marion County GOP event in Indianapolis alongside Governor Mike Braun, Senator Todd Young, and Attorney General Todd Rokita. He argued that Republican control is necessary to prevent non-citizens from voting in local elections and proposed a review of the office by the Indiana Inspector General to identify systemic issues.
Engling's platform also focuses on increasing office transparency and cracking down on fraudulent business registrations, particularly in the trucking industry. He accused Bayh of lying about his public financial and driving records. Engling previously secured the Republican nomination in June by defeating incumbent Diego Morales.
Simultaneously, former Governor Evan Bayh supported his son, Beau Bayh, during a visit to a family memorial. Bayh centered his campaign on holding Secretary of State Diego Morales accountable following allegations of fraud, nepotism, and misuse of taxpayer funds. While Bayh called for an independent audit of the office, Engling maintained that an investigation by the Inspector General would be sufficient. Polls indicate a tight race, with Democrats attempting to win the office for the first time since 1994.
