Türkiye and United Kingdom Sign Strategic Partnership Framework
Türkiye and the United Kingdom signed a strategic partnership to deepen defense and economic ties, including a deal for 20 Eurofighter jets.
The Government of Türkiye and the Government of the United Kingdom signed a Strategic Partnership Framework Document on April 23, 2026, to expand cooperation in defense, security, energy, and technological innovation. The agreement was finalized in London by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper.
A central element of the pact is Türkiye's agreement to purchase 20 Eurofighter fighter jets. Additionally, both nations are negotiating updates to their 2020 Free Trade Agreement to adapt to current global economic conditions.
This strategic alignment occurs as both NATO allies operate outside the European Union and manage risks within a volatile alliance system. The partnership serves as a precursor to the NATO summit scheduled for July 7-8 in Ankara, where officials are expected to discuss the exclusion of both countries from the EU's Security Action for Europe program.
