UK Retailers Fight Scalpers During Delta Reign Pokémon Release

Retailers across the United Kingdom implemented strict sales limits and unsealing policies to combat professional scalping during the launch of the Delta Reign Pokémon card set.

Collectors and resellers crowded retail stores across the United Kingdom on November 7, 2026, to purchase the new Delta Reign Pokémon card set. At the Forbidden Planet store in central London, more than 120 people queued starting at 11 p.m. the previous night to secure elite trainer boxes priced at £49.99.

To deter professional scalpers and the use of automated bots, Forbidden Planet implemented a one-per-customer purchase limit. The store also introduced a supplier-requested unsealing policy, which prevents resellers from selling the products as brand new. Other major retailers adopted different strategies to manage the surge; Amazon utilized an invite-only process, while Argos moved all sales for the set exclusively online.

Pop culture strategist Calvin Innes noted that while Pokémon produces 10 billion cards annually, demand for high-end sets continues to outpace supply. This imbalance has created a volatile market driven by professional scalping and speculation similar to cryptocurrency trends. In Hessle, the Hull Pops Gaming Centre managed the release by reserving products for regular players and members of its kids club.
