Nvidia Updates DLSS 5 to Double AI Rendering Performance

Nvidia updated its DLSS 5 neural rendering technology to double performance and reduce VRAM usage, debuting in NBA 2K27 on October 16.

Nvidia Inc. announced an October update to its DLSS 5 AI-powered neural rendering technology that doubles the performance of the model compared to the previous version. This update represents a 10x performance leap since March and reduces the model's footprint by 24% to approximately 118 million parameters. These optimizations cut VRAM usage at 4K resolution by 20% and halve GPU overhead.

The company also introduced a new Preset C Performance Mode for Frame Generation. Available on RTX 50-series, RTX 40-series, and RTX Spark GPUs, this mode utilizes a faster algorithm to calculate optical flow for UI and ray-traced effects, resulting in a 35% speed boost on the RTX 5060.

The updated technology will debut in NBA 2K27 on October 16, where it reportedly increases frame rates from 65 FPS to 90 FPS in 4K scenarios. Official support is scheduled for Hogwarts Legacy on November 5 and Where Winds Meet in late November. While currently supported on RTX 50-series GPUs, GeForce NOW, and the RTX Spark lineup, Nvidia plans to bring the technology to RTX 40 GPUs.
