JSW Group Launches AMPSTAR Electric Commercial Vehicle Brand
JSW Group entered the Indian electric commercial vehicle market with a 2,500 crore investment in a new manufacturing facility in Maharashtra.
The JSW Group has entered the Indian electric commercial vehicle market through the launch of its AMPSTAR brand under JSW Greentech Limited. The conglomerate invested 2,500 crore to build a 90-acre manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, which has an initial annual capacity of 15,000 units, comprising 10,000 buses and 5,000 trucks.
The product lineup features electric buses ranging from 7 to 18 meters and a 55-tonne electric tractor-trailer, with future plans to include tippers and dumpers. To mitigate the high upfront cost of electric vehicles, which average 80 lakh compared to 25 lakh for diesel alternatives, JSW established a dedicated financing arm and introduced leasing options and Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) models.
JSW intends to drive initial adoption by utilizing its own captive ecosystem of 17,000 trucks across its port, cement, and steel businesses, focusing specifically on closed-loop routes. The company targets the production of 10,000 vehicles in FY28 and may invest an additional 1,500 crore to 2,000 crore to double its total capacity to 30,000 units.
