India Grants Type Certification to Embraer E-Jets Family
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation certified Embraer's E190, E195, and E195-E2 aircraft to expand regional air connectivity and support India's UDAN scheme.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has granted type certification to the Embraer E-Jets family, specifically the E190, E195, and E195-E2 variants. This regulatory approval confirms that the aircraft comply with safety and airworthiness standards under the Aircraft Rules, 1937, allowing their use for commercial operations across India.
The certification supports the Indian government's UDAN regional connectivity scheme by providing aircraft suited for routes too small for large narrow-body jets or too distant for turboprops. Embraer executives noted that the jets offer a flight range of up to seven hours and can operate from challenging airports with short runways or low pavement strength. This follows the existing certification of the E175, which is currently operated by Star Air.
In a parallel development to expand its domestic footprint, Embraer and Adani Aerospace and Defence Limited signed an enhanced Memorandum of Understanding to establish a Final Assembly Line for E175 regional jets. Reports identify Dholera in Gujarat as the selected site for this facility. Embraer currently has nearly 50 aircraft operating within India's commercial, defense, and business aviation sectors.
