Apple Develops J490 Smart Home Hub with Siri AI

Apple is developing a smart home display, internally code-named J490, to function as an intelligent personal hub for households. The device features a seven-inch square screen and will be offered in two hardware configurations: a tabletop stand and a magnetic wall mount.

The hub utilizes a front-facing camera for facial recognition to personalize calendars, notes, and music for different users, though it lacks a depth sensor. Integration with Siri AI enables natural-language queries and the ability to retrieve information across various accounts and devices.

John Ternus described the strategy for the hub at a recent event. The product is currently undergoing testing in the homes of Apple employees. While some reports suggest a launch as early as October 2026, other predictions place the release in early 2027.
