Nissan Recalls 168,149 SUVs Over Incorrect Weight Rating Labels

Nissan North America is recalling 168,149 vehicles in the United States because certification labels in the door jambs provide incorrect Gross Axle Weight Rating information. The error causes the labels to state a load capacity higher than the actual limit, which could lead owners to overload their vehicles and increase the risk of component failure or crashes.

The recall primarily affects Infiniti models, including 90,132 QX80s from 2014 to 2024, 24,162 current-generation QX80s, and 24,277 QX56s from 2011 to 2013. It also includes 29,478 Nissan Armada SUVs from model years 2020 to 2026. All affected vehicles are equipped with 22-inch wheels.

Nissan attributed the mistake to ambiguity in FMVSS 110 regulatory statements and a calculation based only on maximum tire pressure rather than a combination of maximum and OEM-recommended pressure. The company discovered the error during an internal review of its processes. There are no known crashes, injuries, or warranty claims related to this issue. Nissan will provide replacement labels free of charge via mail or through dealerships.
