Gujarat Government Approves Land Allotment for Yusuf Pathan
The Gujarat government approved a resolution to end a 14-year land dispute by allotting a 978-square-metre plot in Vadodara to former cricketer Yusuf Pathan.
The Government of Gujarat has approved a resolution to settle a 14-year land dispute with former international cricketer and Member of Parliament Yusuf Pathan. Under the agreement, Pathan will receive a 978-square-metre plot in the Tandalja area of Vadodara, valued at approximately Rs 20.5 crore. The arrangement gifts 500 square metres for residential use free of cost, while the remaining 478 square metres will be transferred at a 45% concession, requiring Pathan to pay 55% of the assessed market value.
The dispute began in 2012 when Pathan sought a lease for the land, originally requesting it for a stable. While the Vadodara Municipal Corporation initially approved the request, the state government rejected it in 2014. Pathan subsequently faced accusations of illegally occupying the plot by constructing a compound wall, leading to encroachment notices and a Gujarat High Court ruling against his claim.
This resolution follows a shift in Pathan's political affiliation. In June 2026, Pathan and 19 other MPs left the Trinamool Congress to join the Nationalist Citizens Party of India, moving into the NDA ranks. Following a state government resolution on August 13, 2026, which utilized a policy for international sportspersons, Pathan withdrew his legal appeals in August 2026.
The Vadodara Municipal Corporation has now placed the proposal on its agenda. The VMC Standing Committee is scheduled to provide final approval during a meeting on October 23.
