IRCTC Launches Revamped Ticket Booking Portal Beta Version
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation launched a beta version of its redesigned ticket-booking website to increase capacity and streamline user experience.
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) launched the beta version of its redesigned ticket-booking website on July 15, 2026. This update marks the first major redesign of the portal since 2002 and was prompted by feedback from students at the Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) in Jaipur who highlighted difficulties with the previous interface.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the rollout as part of a broader set of 52 structural reforms for Indian Railways. The revamped platform significantly increases technical capacity, raising booking limits from 32,000 to over 1.5 lakh tickets per minute and expanding the Passenger Reservation System's ability to handle enquiries from 4 lakh to over 40 lakh per minute.
User-centric improvements include a unified seat availability view across all classes, a fare calendar for price comparisons, and support for multiple Indian languages. To streamline the process, particularly for Tatkal reservations, the new interface removes repeated CAPTCHA prompts, pop-ups, and flashing graphics. The beta version is currently open for public feedback, with a full nationwide rollout expected in the coming weeks once the newly redeveloped reservation engine is fully operational.
