Justice Department Investigates Arizona Non-Profits Over Voter Registration
The United States Department of Justice is investigating three non-profit organizations accused of registering non-citizens to vote in Arizona ahead of the November 3 election.
The United States Department of Justice has launched an investigation into three non-profit organizations accused of registering non-citizens to vote in Arizona. The probe focuses on Worker Power, Stand Indivisible AZ, and When We Count, a program operated by the Democratic National Committee. The investigation follows an undercover video published by the media outlet Muckraker, which purportedly shows volunteers expressing a willingness to register ineligible voters.
U.S. Attorney Timothy Courchaine referred the case to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and sent letters to Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes and Maricopa County Recorder Justin Heap on October 26. Courchaine requested a formal review of the voter registrations submitted by the targeted groups.
Spokesperson Angelo Fernández Hernández denied the allegations on behalf of the Democratic National Committee, describing the claims as fabricated and inspired by right-wing operatives. The announcement of the probe comes four days before the November 3 election, prompting warnings from former officials that the timing may sow doubt regarding the legitimacy of the election results.
