Indian Markets and Banks Observe Eid-e-Milad Holidays
Indian stock exchanges remain open for trading while banks in several states close to observe Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi on August 26.
Financial operations in India are partially suspended on August 26, 2026, to observe Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi. The Reserve Bank of India designated the date as a bank holiday for branches in 14 states, including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. While physical branches in these regions are closed, online platforms and UPI services remain operational nationwide. Further bank closures are scheduled for August 28 in specific states for Raksha Bandhan.
Simultaneously, the National Stock Exchange of India and the Bombay Stock Exchange remain open for trading, though they are observing a settlement holiday. This means clearing and settlement activities, such as the pay-in and payout of stocks and funds, are suspended. Traders cannot access intraday profits from August 25 in their account balances on August 26, and shares purchased on August 25 and 26 cannot be sold until August 27.
Other market activities vary by sector. The Multi Commodity Exchange of India remains open for both morning and evening sessions, while currency markets are closed for the day.
