UK Returns 1,087 Migrants to France Under New Agreement

The Home Office has returned 1,087 migrants to France between August 4, 2025, and June 30, 2026, under a 'one in, one out' agreement. This figure represents approximately 4% of the 27,920 migrants who arrived in the UK via small boats during that period. Under the terms of the deal, the UK returns small-boat arrivals to France and accepts an equal number of individuals from France with legitimate claims to enter Britain; 1,117 people were transferred to the UK through this mechanism.

The Home Office reports that small-boat arrivals have decreased by over 40% compared to the previous year. While the scheme was originally temporary, the government has extended it until autumn 2026 to further disrupt the business models of migrant smuggling networks.
