Saba Yisa Gideon Resigns from All Progressives Congress

Saba Yisa Gideon resigned from the All Progressives Congress, citing concerns over internal democracy and fairness within the ruling party.

Member of the Kwara State House of Assembly Saba Yisa Gideon resigned from the All Progressives Congress effective immediately. In a resignation letter dated August 19, 2026, Gideon cited a lack of internal democracy, fairness, and inclusiveness within the party as the primary reasons for his departure. He pledged to continue his legislative duties for the Edu State Constituency and his role as Chairman of the House Committee on Livestock.

The resignation follows a period of political instability for Gideon. In December 2025, the Kwara State House of Assembly suspended him for unparliamentary conduct after allegations surfaced that he leaked sensitive legislative deliberations regarding the revocation of mining licenses to APC chieftain Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki.

Reports indicate the suspension was politically motivated, resulting from a power struggle between Speaker Salihu Yakubu Danladi and Seriki, both of whom are believed to have governorship ambitions.
