China Conducts Naval-Air Exercises Near Disputed Scarborough Shoal

The People's Liberation Army Southern Theater Command conducted joint naval-air training exercises in the waters and airspace surrounding Huangyan Dao, also known as Scarborough Shoal, on September 27, 2026. The operation focused on reconnaissance, early warning, rapid maneuver, and joint search and rescue to enhance combat capabilities for safeguarding China's territorial sovereignty and maritime rights.

Simultaneously, the China Coast Guard performed drills involving boarding and inspection, interdiction of intrusion, and forced towing. The military command described the operation as a necessary response to acts by certain countries that have undermined regional peace and stability.
