Germany Doubles Anti-Drone Teams Amid Hybrid Warfare Warnings

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt warned that Germany is a daily target of hybrid warfare, citing a constant reality of espionage, sabotage, and cyberattacks by foreign powers intended to destabilize the country. The warning follows two specific security breaches: the August 4 discovery of an explosive-laden drone at Leipzig/Halle Airport and the August 6 sighting of two drones over a military base in Mechernich.

In response to these threats, the German government plans to double its federal anti-drone expert team from 150 to 300 personnel and expand its network of bases from four to eight. While some German lawmakers attributed the airport incident to Russia, the Russian embassy in Berlin dismissed the discovery as a "fabricated provocation."

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic commented on the broader geopolitical tension, arguing that Russia's hybrid war against Europe mirrors Europe's own actions toward Russia. Vucic maintained that Ukraine did not start the war and is the victim of aggression.
