Boeing Prioritizes Production Stability Over New Aircraft Launch

At the Farnborough International Airshow, Boeing executives announced a strategic shift to prioritize production stability and financial recovery over the development of new aircraft. CEO Kelly Ortberg stated that the company requires several more years to resolve its financial standing before it can launch a successor to the 737 MAX, noting the need to ensure technology readiness and market demand.

Commercial Airplanes CEO Stephanie Pope detailed plans to stabilize 737 MAX production at 47 aircraft per month, with a goal to eventually increase that rate to 52. This push follows a production cap imposed by the Federal Aviation Administration after safety and quality lapses in 2024. Pope emphasized that the company will prioritize fulfilling its strong order backlog over seeking new announcements, a move intended to help reduce Boeing's $26 billion net debt and better compete with Airbus SE.

While Boeing focuses on its current fleet and the 2028 delivery of the next Air Force One, Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury announced that his company is targeting a next-generation single-aisle jet for service in the second half of the 2030s to maintain its market lead in the narrow-body segment.
