Ned Lamont Wins Third Term as Connecticut Governor
Governor Ned Lamont defeated Republican challenger Ryan Fazio to secure a third term, maintaining Democratic control of the Connecticut governorship.
Governor Ned Lamont won a third term as governor of Connecticut in the November 3, 2026, election, defeating Republican state Senator Ryan Fazio. Lamont becomes only the second politician in state history to win three four-year terms. The Associated Press called the race at 9:17 p.m., and Fazio conceded shortly after at approximately 9:30 p.m. By midnight, Lamont held a 16 percentage point lead.
Lamont campaigned on a record of balanced budgets, surpluses, and middle-class tax cuts, while self-funding his campaign. Fazio, who utilized $18 million from the state's public financing system, focused on the high cost of living, proposing a $1 billion reduction in state spending and a $2,000 tax cut per family. The contest centered heavily on affordability, specifically regarding healthcare costs and electricity prices.
The victory was part of a broader Democratic sweep in Connecticut, where the party also won all five U.S. House of Representatives seats with an estimated 61.63% of the statewide vote. U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal described the results as a "blue tornado," coinciding with projections that Democrats would gain control of both the U.S. House and Senate.
