Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan Sign Treaty on Allied Relations

Leaders from Central Asian nations and Azerbaijan convened in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, on July 31 and August 1, 2026, for an informal consultative meeting. The summit resulted in the adoption of the Cholpon-Ata Declaration, which focuses on sustainable development, peace, and regional cooperation.

Ilham Aliyev and President Sadyr Japarov signed the Treaty on Allied Relations, elevating the bilateral ties between Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan to the highest formal level. To support this alliance, the two nations doubled the capital of the Azerbaijan-Kyrgyzstan Development Fund to $200 million and signed sectoral agreements regarding energy, transport, and cybersecurity. The leaders also inaugurated the Baku Resort & Spa hotel on Lake Issyk-Kul to mark Azerbaijani investment in Kyrgyzstan.

Presidents from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan joined the discussions on enhancing trade and transport connectivity via the Middle Corridor. The participants aimed to establish a unified geopolitical and geoeconomic space linking Central Asia with the South Caucasus and Europe. Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev called for stronger coordination through the Central Asia Plus format, while Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahmon emphasized expanding regional investment and trade.
