Kenya Partners With China To Upgrade Manufacturing Capacity

The Government of Kenya is deepening industrial collaboration with China to modernize production lines, increase value-added exports, and create employment for youth. During the 9th Kenya International Industrial Expo in Nairobi, officials detailed plans to leverage Chinese technology, skilled labor, and supply chains to revive local industry.

The initiative focuses on importing industrial tools to enable local production and encouraging Chinese firms to establish businesses within Kenya to improve market access. Key areas of cooperation include green energy, specifically solar equipment to reduce household energy costs, and advanced processing technologies such as laser cutting and engraving.

To support these goals, the government has implemented policy and regulatory changes designed to attract investment and address existing trade imbalances. The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry emphasized the need to bring more tools from China to start producing locally, while the Kenya Investment Authority highlighted the goal of achieving long-term growth and transformation through manufacturing cooperation.
