Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Leads Yamuna Cleanup Drive
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta led the Ek Sankalp, Swachh Yamuna campaign across 70 locations to remove pollutants from the Yamuna river.
Rekha Gupta, the Chief Minister of Delhi, led the Ek Sankalp, Swachh Yamuna cleanliness drive on Sunday, October 18. The campaign took place across 70 locations along the Yamuna river in the national capital, mobilizing thousands of students, residents, and social organizations to remove pollutants, including broken idols and worship materials.
Government officials including Minister Parvesh Verma and MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri participated in the initiative. The drive is intended to complement ongoing infrastructure projects, such as the installation of household sewer connections and sewage treatment plants. During the event, Gupta stated, "I believe that cleanliness is a way of life, and we all need to incorporate it into our daily lives."
Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra used the event to criticize the previous Aam Aadmi Party government under Arvind Kejriwal. Malhotra asserted that the former administration failed to implement a concrete action plan for the river's 33-km stretch in Delhi, claiming the current administration has now established a formal plan for the cleanup.
