China Proposes 100 Humanoid Robot Standards by 2028

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology proposed creating 100 key humanoid robot standards by 2028 to regulate a sector containing over 400 domestic models.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China has proposed the creation of at least 100 key standards for the humanoid robot industry to be established by 2028. The draft guideline, which is open for public comment from August 25 to September 23, seeks to implement a coordinated national standard system involving more than 200 enterprises.

These standards will cover capability testing, key technologies, safety governance, and ethical requirements, as well as assessments of social impact. The regulatory push follows rapid growth in the sector; the ministry reports that China has developed over 400 humanoid robot models, which accounts for more than half of the global total.

This initiative supports a broader state objective to deploy humanoid robots at a 10,000-unit scale within representative scenarios by the end of 2026.
