Taiwan Semiconductor Gains Drive Taiex Index to 47,018.99
Taiwanese shares closed sharply higher on July 1 as technology gains, led by TSMC, pushed the benchmark Taiex index up 1.94 percent.
The benchmark Taiex index rose 1.94 percent to close at 47,018.99 on July 1, 2026. The surge was driven by strong performance in the technology sector, specifically Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., which closed at a daily high of NT$2,505.00. The chipmaker's 3.94 percent gain contributed approximately 760 points to the overall index rise, following strong performance of its American depositary receipts in U.S. markets.
Other semiconductor firms also saw gains, including ASE Technology Holding Co., which rose 3.38 percent, and MediaTek Inc., which increased 2.12 percent. These gains were partially offset by declines in memory chip supplier Nanya Technology Corp. and iPhone assembler Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Large-cap financial stocks, including Cathay Financial Holding Co. and Fubon Financial Holding Co., also posted losses.
Foreign institutional investors were net buyers of NT$32.38 billion on the main board during the session.
