Three AAP Legislators Resign and Join BJP in Punjab

Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh and two other former Aam Aadmi Party legislators resigned from the Punjab Assembly to join the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Amritsar North MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh resigned from the Punjab Legislative Assembly on November 2, 2026, joining the Bharatiya Janata Party in New Delhi. Singh, a former IPS officer who was suspended from the Aam Aadmi Party in June 2025 for anti-party activities, was joined by former AAP MLAs Chetan Singh Jouramajra and Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra.

Singh stated his move was driven by a desire for "clean politics and transparent administration" and a "Punjab First" objective, claiming he had met 90 percent of his legislative targets. Jouramajra and Pathanmajra, who resigned on Sunday, accused the AAP leadership of interference and failing to combat drugs and crime.

The defections occurred shortly after the Aam Aadmi Party released its first candidate list for the 2027 Assembly elections, which omitted the constituencies of Jouramajra and Pathanmajra. In response, the Aam Aadmi Party requested the Assembly Speaker to cancel the memberships of the departing legislators, noting that some had already been suspended before submitting their resignations.
