Kazakhstan Ratifies Customs Agreement to Boost Uzbekistan Trade
The Kurultai of Kazakhstan ratified a customs agreement with Uzbekistan to open representative offices and accelerate the movement of goods and citizens.
The Kurultai of Kazakhstan ratified an agreement with Uzbekistan to establish representative offices for their respective customs services. Originally signed in Tashkent on November 15, 2025, the pact creates a framework for the prompt exchange of information and coordinated security measures to facilitate bilateral trade.
The agreement aims to accelerate the movement of citizens, transport, and goods across state borders. This legislative action follows a period of rapid economic growth between the two nations. Kazakhstan Temir Zholy reported that bilateral rail freight traffic reached a 10-year record of 32.3 million tons in 2025, representing a 16% increase over the previous year.
Kazakhstan's exports to Uzbekistan rose to 13 million tons during that period. Grain shipments saw a particularly sharp increase, growing by 32% to exceed 4.5 million tons.
