Houthi Missile Attacks Shut Down Saudi Aramco Jazan Refinery

The national oil company Saudi Aramco shut down its Jazan oil refinery on July 27 following missile and drone attacks by the Houthi movement. The strikes damaged the facility's tank farm and Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle complex. The refinery processes 400,000 barrels of crude per day and serves as a strategic asset for exporting refined products via the Red Sea to bypass the Strait of Hormuz.

Houthi militants stated the operations were retaliation for Saudi attacks on the Yemeni port city of Hodeida. The group also claimed to have targeted Aramco facilities in Yanbu. Repairs to the Jazan site are tentatively expected to conclude by August 15.

This disruption coincides with separate drone attacks targeting oil facilities in Riyadh and the Eastern Province. The Saudi Foreign Ministry attributed these specific strikes to Iran-backed groups launching drones from Iraq. The Government of Saudi Arabia stated it reserves the right to respond to these incursions.
