U.S. Treasury Yields Rise Ahead of Federal Reserve Decision
U.S. Treasury yields increased during Asian trading as investors anticipate the Federal Reserve's interest rate decision on October 28.
U.S. Treasury yields rose during Asian trading on Wednesday, reversing a prior decline that had been sparked by weak housing data. The 10-year Treasury yield climbed 1.5 basis points to 5.131%, while the 30-year yield increased by 1.6 basis points to 5.440%.
Market participants are currently pricing in an 85% probability that the Federal Reserve System will maintain current interest rates during its October 28 decision. Despite the expected hold, investors anticipate three rate hikes over the coming year.
Attention is now focused on a $13 billion auction of 20-year bonds scheduled for Wednesday. Strategists at Chase Bank expressed a negative outlook on the auction, citing rich valuations and an unattractive macro backdrop. Conversely, the Investment Institute at UniCredit characterized current yield levels as attractive for investors with a medium-term horizon.
