BYD Considers Building Electric Vehicle Plant in France

BYD is studying the possibility of building an automotive plant in France to expand its European manufacturing footprint amid new EU trade restrictions.

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD is considering the construction of an automotive plant in France as part of a broader strategy to establish multiple factories across Europe. Vice President Stella Li announced the possibility during a BFM television appearance ahead of the Paris Auto Show, stating the company intends to invest massively in the region.

This potential expansion follows the development of a site in Hungary, which is expected to open by the end of 2026. The move occurs as the European Union implements new trade restrictions to address an unsustainable trade deficit, specifically limiting Chinese hybrid car imports to 350,000 units per year.

While Li noted she lacked specific details on the trade accord, she emphasized the company's long-term commitment to the European market and the goal of establishing a strong local presence.
