Cockroach Janata Party Calls Mass Protests Amid Arrest Threats
The Cockroach Janata Party is organizing nationwide protests for October 10 as leaders claim the government plans to arrest them under security laws.
Leaders of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) have called for a mass mobilization across India starting October 10 to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The protests follow an investigation into irregularities regarding the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The Election Commission of India has rejected claims of institutional dissent, stating that internal objections were standard administrative processes and that decisions were unanimous.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, co-convener Saurav Das, and activist Ashutosh Ranka claim they face imminent arrest under the National Security Act or other provisions before the October 10 demonstrations. They have characterized these potential crackdowns as dictatorial actions intended to silence a youth-driven movement. The party maintains that the agitation will continue regardless of whether its leadership is detained.
The political tension follows a Sunday protest in New Delhi led by the Indian Youth Congress, which resulted in the detention of approximately 110 people and injuries to 15 Delhi Police personnel. Additionally, Saurav Das and legal lead Ratna Singh have accused the Delhi Police of manhandling protesters and failing to register an FIR after a woman journalist alleged she was sexually assaulted by officers during a protest.
