Humanitarian Groups Call Gaza Ceasefire a Failure After Year
Over 100 humanitarian organizations claim the Gaza ceasefire exists in name only as Israeli forces continue attacks and restrict essential aid.
More than 100 humanitarian and human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and Save the Children, issued an open letter on October 9, 2026, asserting that the Gaza ceasefire agreement reached one year prior exists in name only. The groups report that Israeli forces have killed more than 1,400 Palestinians, including at least 327 children, since the agreement was signed.
Islamic Relief reported that Israeli attacks have killed or wounded a Palestinian every 90 minutes on average during this period. The charity and other signatories accuse the Military of Israel of expanding its military control area, known as the Yellow Line, to displace Palestinians from 65 percent of Gaza. They further allege that Israel continues to block essential fuel, medical supplies, and rebuilding materials.
The humanitarian crisis has reached critical levels, with 1.4 million people facing crisis-level hunger and nearly two million lacking adequate shelter as winter approaches. No hospitals in the region are currently fully functioning. Recent violence includes an airstrike in Khan Younis and the shooting of a 13-year-old boy in the West Bank.
Signatories to the open letter, including the Norwegian Refugee Council and the Palestinian NGO Network, are calling on governments to enforce the ceasefire and ensure compliance with International Court of Justice orders to stop ongoing atrocity crimes.
