Palantir Shares Slump Amid High Valuation and Alphabet Competition

Palantir Technologies shares fell 6% on Wednesday, marking the stock's largest one-day decline since February due to high valuation and new AI competition from Alphabet.

Shares of Palantir Technologies experienced a significant slump on September 2, 2026, recording a 6% drop on Wednesday afternoon and a total decline of 9% since the start of the week. This represents the stock's largest one-day decline since February, positioning it as one of the worst performers in the S&P 500.

Market analysts attribute the volatility to a high valuation multiple of 82 times estimated forward earnings. This pricing makes the stock particularly susceptible to rising global bond yields and increased borrowing costs. Brent Thill of Jefferies noted that this valuation leaves little room for execution slippage or the normalization of growth.

Investor concern has also been fueled by Alphabet Inc., which launched Gemini 3.8 Flash and Flash Cyber. These new offerings are viewed as a direct challenge to Palantir's government business. Michael Monaghan of Founders ETFs linked the stock's decline to both these product launches and the broader macroeconomic environment.

The sell-off occurs despite strong second-quarter financial results. Palantir reported that revenue rose 93% to $1.9 billion, while non-GAAP net income increased 215% to $0.41 per diluted share.
