Egypt Deploys Military Forces to Saudi Arabia for Defensive Mission
Egypt has deployed military forces to Saudi Arabia to protect the kingdom from retaliatory attacks by the Yemeni Armed Forces.
The Egyptian government has approved the deployment of military forces to Saudi Arabia for a defensive mission intended to protect the kingdom from retaliatory operations by the Yemeni Armed Forces (YAF). The decision followed an emergency session of the Egyptian House of Representatives and approval from the National Defense Council, chaired by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
At least two Egyptian Air Force C-130H transport aircraft have already landed at King Fahd Air Base in Taif. This military movement comes as the YAF targets Saudi airports and energy sites, including the recent shoot-down of a Saudi AH-6i attack helicopter off the coast of Najran. In response, Saudi Arabia has increased its airstrikes in Hodeidah, Yemen.
The deployment coincides with reports that the Mecca Defense Pact, involving Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkiye, has been activated. While Egypt has committed forces, Pakistan has denied reports that its aircraft are conducting strikes within Yemen.
