Ilham Aliyev Inspects Restoration Projects in Liberated Azerbaijan

President Ilham Aliyev visited Shusha and Khojavend districts to review housing and infrastructure reconstruction for returning displaced residents.

President Ilham Aliyev conducted a series of inspections on July 11, 2026, to oversee the reconstruction of residential and social infrastructure in territories liberated during 2023 anti-terror measures. The visits focused on returning internally displaced persons to their ancestral lands in the Shusha and Khojavend districts.

In the Shusha district, Aliyev visited Kichik Galaderesi village, where 26 of 66 individual houses are currently ready for occupancy, allowing 15 families to return. He also reviewed the Yasaman Hotel, a mid-19th-century structure restored by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation using archival photographs to recreate its original Garabagh architectural style. Infrastructure improvements in these areas include new gas and water lines, asphalted roads, and the construction of a Flag Square.

Continuing in the Khojavend district, the president visited Guzeykhirman and Guneykhirman villages. In Guzeykhirman, 100 of 447 houses have been prepared for residency. The restoration effort there included the installation of fiber-optic cables and the renovation of a nursery-kindergarten and a secondary school. During these visits, Aliyev met with returning residents and emphasized that the state's strength and will led to the liberation and recovery of these lands.
