Anthropic Restores Claude AI Services After Recurring Outages
Anthropic restored Claude AI services following two separate outages in April 2026 that disrupted login systems and API access for thousands of users.
AI company Anthropic managed two significant service disruptions to its Claude AI platform within a single week in April 2026. Both incidents primarily affected authentication and login systems across Claude.ai, Claude Code, and the Claude API.
On April 13, a disruption occurred between 15:31 and 16:19 UTC, causing connection problems for users of Claude Cowork and Claude for Government. Data from DownDetector indicated that Claude Code was the most affected tool, representing approximately 67% of user reports. Anthropic applied a fix to restore full access following this event.
A second outage began around 14:53 UTC on April 15, triggering over 20,000 reports on Downdetector as users encountered login failures and busy service messages. Engineers restored the API by 16:01 UTC, while other services remained unstable for a longer period. The incident was fully resolved by 17:42 UTC, after a total of 113 minutes of partial and major outages.
