Crédit Agricole to Acquire IKB Deutsche Industriebank
Crédit Agricole S.A. signed an agreement with Lone Star Funds to acquire 100% of IKB Deutsche Industriebank to expand its German commercial franchise.
Crédit Agricole S.A. signed an agreement with Lone Star Funds to acquire 100% of the share capital of IKB Deutsche Industriebank AG. The acquisition of the Düsseldorf-based specialist bank is a central element of the banking group's ACT 2028 medium-term plan, which aims to establish a pan-European SME and mid-corporate network across Germany, France, and Italy.
IKB reported total assets of €14.3 billion and a loan book of €8.2 billion as of December 31, 2025. Crédit Agricole will finance the transaction using its own resources, a move expected to reduce its CET1 ratio by approximately 20 basis points. The deal remains subject to European Central Bank approval, Foreign Subsidies Regulation clearance, and antitrust reviews, with a projected closing date by the end of the second quarter of 2027.
CEO Olivier Gavalda stated that Germany is a key pillar of the group's European ambitions. IKB CEO Michael H. Wiedmann noted that the merger provides the bank with increased financial strength and an international network while maintaining its commitment to the German Mittelstand.
