Kline Township Supervisors Approve Amazon Data Center Project
The Kline Township Board of Supervisors unanimously approved an Amazon data center campus subject to strict noise and environmental conditions.
The Kline Township Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a proposal for an Amazon data center campus on September 30, 2026. The facility will be located near Interstate 81 and Route 309 in Schuylkill County.
The approval follows a unanimous recommendation from the Kline Township Planning Commission on September 29. That recommendation was contingent upon a nine-page document of conditions drafted by Amazon and Keystone Consulting Engineers, Inc. These requirements include third-party noise monitoring to keep levels below 60 decibels, as well as protections for the environment, land, water supply, and wastewater.
During public meetings held at McAdoo Kelayres Elementary/Middle School, residents accused local officials of a lack of transparency and failing to protect the community. Planning Commission member Tony Perna argued that conditional approval was necessary to maintain oversight, while Supervisor Gary Perna Jr. stated the board based its decision on information provided by hired experts.
Despite the board's vote, Amazon must still complete the zoning and pre-construction process with the township and state before construction can begin.
