Walgreens to Open First India Capability Centre in Chennai

Walgreens India Private Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding on September 18, 2026, to establish its first Global Capability Centre (GCC) in India. The facility will be located at the DLF Downtown Taramani complex along the Old Mahabalipuram Road GCC corridor in Chennai, focusing on technology and business services to support the company's enterprise operations.

The company expects to create more than 250 high-value technology and operational jobs during the first year, with plans for phased expansion in subsequent years. The investment aligns with the Tamil Nadu Global Capability Centres Corridor and Development Programme, a state initiative designed to attract global firms to key employment corridors.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and State Industries Minister S. Keerthana. Following the signing, Chief Minister Vijay reviewed the implementation of several other Memoranda of Understanding secured during a recent investment trip to the United Kingdom to ensure those commitments are realized.
