Strikes Kill Four Children and Destroy UNICEF Supplies in Gaza

UNICEF reports four children killed and critical nutrition and water infrastructure destroyed in the Gaza Strip during a five-day period ending August 28.

At least four children were killed and several others injured in the Gaza Strip over a five-day period ending August 28, 2026. The casualties include two young boys, a 10-year-old girl struck by ground fire, and a 16-year-old boy.

UNICEF reported significant losses to humanitarian infrastructure during the period. On August 24, a strike severely damaged a water well and desalination facility in Deir Al Balah, cutting off safe drinking water for approximately 4,000 people. The agency is currently providing emergency water trucking to the area. On August 25, another strike destroyed a warehouse containing over US$770,000 in nutrition supplies intended for 40,500 children and 4,900 pregnant or breastfeeding women.

Edouard Beigbeder, UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, noted that 70 percent of water and sanitation infrastructure in the region is already damaged. He stated that the destruction of vital supplies and services continues to deepen the suffering of families already struggling to survive.
