India's Logistics Data Bank Tracks 10 Crore Containers

The Logistics Data Bank (LDB) has reached a milestone by tracking 10 crore export-import (EXIM) containers since its launch in 2016. The digital platform monitors 100 percent of EXIM container movements across 32 container terminals, 19 ports, and various railway stations and inland depots.

Union Minister of Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal stated that the platform's technological interventions are modernizing supply chains and improving the competitiveness of Indian industry. The system employs Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, and Cloud computing to provide visibility. In September 2025, the platform evolved into LDB 2.0, which added high-seas tracking and multimodal shipment visibility.

Managed by NICDC Logistics Data Services Limited (NLDSL), a joint venture between the Government of India and Japan's NEC Corporation, the LDB serves as a central digital platform for the logistics sector. Rajat Kumar Saini, Chairman of NLDSL, noted that the achievement resulted from cooperation between various ministries, ports, and terminals.
