Nyesom Wike Signs 26,272 Land Certificates in Abuja
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike issued over 26,000 Certificates of Occupancy to clear a decade-long backlog and improve business access to loans.
Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike signed 26,272 Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) during the first three years of President Bola Tinubu's administration. This volume exceeds the 8,697 certificates issued between 2010 and 2023 under the administrations of Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari.
The Federal Capital Territory Administration implemented these measures to clear a decade-long backlog caused by administrative inefficiencies. Aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda, the reforms aim to improve the ease of doing business by allowing property owners to use land titles as collateral for mortgages and loans.
To accelerate delivery, the administration streamlined the documentation process and introduced an automated notification system. Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister, stated that land allottees can now receive their documents within two weeks of making the necessary payments. In addition to the C-of-O issuances, the administration granted 2,521 Consents to Assign and 177 Consents to Mortgage during the same period.
