Xbox CEO Asha Sharma Returns to Console Exclusives Strategy
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announced a return to console exclusives for select titles to improve the company's business health.
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announced a strategic return to console exclusives to revive a business she described as not particularly healthy. Under this shift, Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution will be available only on Xbox Series X/S and PC, skipping releases on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
Sharma stated that Xbox must balance its position as the world's second-largest publisher, which relies on wide distribution, with its obligations as a platform owner requiring exclusive content. Chief strategist Matthew Ball noted that these two titles initiate a formal program and internal framework used to determine game exclusivity.
Beyond the strategy shift, Sharma cited high component costs as a burden on the gaming industry. She predicted that radically different business models will emerge later this year to address these economic pressures.
