Congress and Samajwadi Party Negotiate 2027 Uttar Pradesh Seats

Aradhana Mishra announced that national INDIA bloc leadership will determine seat-sharing for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections.

The Indian National Congress and the Samajwadi Party are negotiating seat-sharing arrangements for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections. Aradhana Mishra, the newly appointed Uttar Pradesh Congress president, stated that these arrangements will be determined by the national leadership of the INDIA bloc and its constituent parties rather than at the state level. Mishra clarified that the alliance is a national-level arrangement formed in Delhi and was not created specifically for Uttar Pradesh.

Internal party goals vary as negotiations continue. Uttar Pradesh Congress incharge Rajendra Pal Gautam indicated that seat-sharing could be finalized in October and asserted that the party intends to contest no fewer than 150 of the 403 available seats.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav indicated his party intends to contest the elections with largely the same allies used in recent polls. The two parties previously collaborated during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where they achieved strong results against the BJP-led NDA.
