Dutch Government Reduces Ownership Stake in ABN Amro
The Dutch government will lower its ownership stake in ABN Amro to 10.5% as part of a long-term plan to fully privatize the bank.
The Government of the Netherlands announced plans to reduce its ownership stake in ABN Amro from over 20.7% to 10.5%. This reduction is part of a long-term strategy to return the financial institution fully to the market.
ABN Amro's CEO welcomed the decision, stating that a lower government stake provides the bank with the ambition to expand further across Europe and pursue more mergers and acquisitions. The bank is currently integrating recent acquisitions to strengthen its market position, including the German wealth management bank Halle and the Dutch retail bank NBK, the latter of which closed on August 1.
