Maine Family Federal Credit Union Restores Banking Services
Maine Family Federal Credit Union restored online and mobile banking services after a three-day outage caused by a third-party service provider.
The Maine Family Federal Credit Union restored its online and mobile banking services on Saturday morning following a three-day outage that began Tuesday. President and CEO Dan Clarke attributed the disruption to a third-party service provider, noting that the issue affected between 250 and 300 credit unions.
Credit union leadership clarified that the outage was a service failure rather than a data or security breach. Direct deposits, debit cards, checks, and automatic payments remained operational throughout the event.
Addressing the impact on member confidence, Clarke responded to suggestions that the institution switch providers. He explained that replacing core processing systems is a complex undertaking that can take years to complete, as these systems affect nearly every aspect of a financial institution's operations.
