Bangladesh Commemorates July Mass Uprising Day With Events

Government ministers and thousands of citizens held commemorative discussions and a rock concert to mark the anniversary of the July Mass Uprising.

Bangladesh observed July Mass Uprising Day on August 5, 2026, with a series of political discussions and cultural events commemorating the second anniversary of the 2024 protests. In Rajshahi, Minister for Land Mizanur Rahman Minu led a commemorative discussion at the Rajshahi District Shilpakala Academy auditorium. Minu paid tribute to the martyrs of the uprising and called for citizen collaboration to build a democratic nation.

During the Rajshahi event, Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton stressed the importance of teaching the history of the uprising to future generations. The gathering included divisional and deputy commissioners who described the movement as a vital chapter in the country's pursuit of justice and development.

Later in the day, thousands gathered at Suhrawardy Udyan for the Concert for Democracy 2026. Co-organized by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, and the Bangladesh Musical Bands Association, the event featured performances by rock bands including Miles, Warfaze, Souls, and Ashes. Minister for Cultural Affairs Nitai Roy Chowdhury attended as the chief guest, leading a nationwide observance of courage and solidarity despite persistent monsoon rain.
