Brazil and Pakistan Discuss US-Iran Mediation and Defense Ties

Mauro Vieira, the Foreign Minister of Brazil, and Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation on August 20, 2026, to coordinate on international security and diplomatic relations. During the call, Vieira commended the constructive role and mediation efforts Pakistan has undertaken between the United States and Iran, stating that dialogue and diplomacy are essential for global peace.

Vieira also congratulated Dar on Pakistan signing the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement. In response, Dar praised Brazil for its leadership in advancing South-South cooperation and its commitment to international stability. Both officials reaffirmed their commitment to multilateralism and agreed to maintain high-level coordination at the United Nations and other multilateral forums.
