Kenya Approves Investor Access to $1.6 Billion Dangote IPO

Kenya's Capital Markets Authority approved a prospectus allowing local investors to participate in the $1.6 billion Dangote Petroleum Refinery IPO via global depository receipts.

The Capital Markets Authority of Kenya has approved a short-form prospectus that enables eligible Kenyan investors to participate in the $1.6 billion initial public offering of the Nigeria-based Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals. The IPO, which opened on September 14, 2026, and closes on October 13, 2026, allows investors to access shares through Global Depository Receipts (GDRs).

Renaissance Capital (Kenya) Limited is facilitating the offering in coordination with its affiliate, Renaissance Capital Africa. Seven other licensed Kenyan firms, including AXYS Investment Bank and SBG Securities/Stanbic Bank, are also assisting clients through Nigerian partners. The resulting GDRs are expected to list on the Nairobi Securities Exchange, pending approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission of Nigeria.

Dangote Industries is utilizing the capital raise to expand the refinery's capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day. The regulator clarified that this specific offering is for the Nigerian facility and is entirely unrelated to the planned Dangote East African Petroleum Refinery project in Lamu County.
